Hello students! In today’s blog, I am bringing you a concise guide on the PSSSB Typing Test. Although our channel has already uploaded multiple videos regarding this test, today’s post is a short guide that will help you understand how to calculate the PSSSB Typing Test within just two minutes.
Understanding the PSSSB Typing Test
The PSSSB Typing Test is divided into multiple chunks. But what exactly are chunks? A chunk is a small paragraph consisting of about two to three lines. During the test, you will be given these chunks to type.
The exam is conducted online through software on a computer screen, and you have to type the provided text directly on the screen. The test includes both English and Punjabi languages, meaning you must complete the typing test in both languages to qualify.
Exam Pattern and Duration
The test consists of 10 chunks.
It is conducted online (not offline).
You are given 10 minutes for English typing and 10 minutes for Punjabi typing.
You need to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in both languages.
Character-Based Typing Test
A common confusion among students is between word-based and character-based typing tests. The PSSSB Typing Test is character-based, not word-based.
Here’s how it works:
You must complete 1500 characters in English and 1500 characters in Punjabi.
A character includes letters, numbers, spaces, and punctuation marks.
For example, let’s break it down:
The word “Amandeep” consists of 8 characters.
In typing tests, approximately 5 characters are counted as one word.
If you multiply 30 words by 5 characters per word, you get 1500 characters.
This means that instead of focusing on words, you should focus on achieving 1500 characters within 10 minutes.
Importance of Accuracy
In addition to typing speed, accuracy plays a crucial role. To pass the test, you need a minimum of 92% accuracy. Even if you type at 30 WPM but your accuracy is below 92%, you will be disqualified.
Many students wonder whether completing all 10 chunks is necessary to pass the test. The answer is no. The key requirement is to complete 1500 characters within 10 minutes. Sometimes, students complete this in the 9th chunk, while others might need the 10th chunk. It depends on the type and length of the given content.
Does Typing Test Affect Merit?
No, the typing test is only qualifying in nature. Your final merit is based on your written exam score. This means that even if you pass the typing test, your ranking will be determined solely by your written exam performance.
Final Tips for Success
Practice consistently: Do not wait until the last moment. Start practicing as early as possible.
Focus on accuracy: Ensure that your accuracy remains above 92% to avoid disqualification.
Avoid rushing: Completing the test too quickly may increase errors. Instead, maintain a steady pace.
Be patient: Typing speed improves gradually with practice.
